For each Adventure, parents get access to an Online Adventure and on that page, they get a weekly Information Topic. This week’s theme is Object Permanence which is a major milestone for babies – so do encourage parents to read this and to practie the sorts of exercises we cover. We would also love them to share their own eperiences, advice and pictures with other parents on our Private Facebook page.
Signing Activities
At most sessions, we will do some baby signs, and we use a mix of BSL, ASL and Makaton. For baby signing, it doesn’t really matter which signs parents use, so long as they are consistent, as they are not likely to be signing to anyone else, just to their baby. We are moving more towards Makaton signs and if there is not a video to accompany the sign you are learning, you can usually find it o You Tube.
You can also use the following website – www.babysignlanguage.com – which contains signs for ASL and is a useful resource.
Here are the details of the signs that you will need to learn for this session. You will have some signing cards that you can hand out to parents at the class. You may decide to put them on the mats so they have them for when they arrive, or you can hand them out as and when you get to the activity in the Adventure. Be sure to ask parents not to let babies eat the cards (as you know everything usually goes in babies’ mouths! and make sure you warn them to take off the clips holding the cards together and put them somewhere safe where baby cannot get hold of them as they may present a choking hazard.

Our Home Activity for our Easter Adventure is how to make a Duck Mask that you can use to test Object Permanence with your baby.
You can also do lots of sensory activities with your little ones with things you will find in the shops over Easter, espacially plastic eggs:
- Water Play: Plastic eggs can be incorporated into lots of different Easter activities for babies – simply add unscrewed plastic eggs (i.e. each half) to a tray of water and let your baby pick them up, scoop and pour, or simply splash about with them. You can even put a few eggs in with them at bathtimeto make bath time more interesting!
- Sorting: Place the plastic eggs in an egg carton and let your baby pick them out and put them back. If you have different coloured eggs, you could colour the trays in the same colours and help your little ones to put the eggs in the correct coloured compartment.
- Plastic egg rattles (which we will have shown you at class): Pack the plastic eggs with loose material – e.g. sand, flour, dried beans, rice, pasta etc and screw shut for some easy homemade rattles. You can put some tape around the midde to secure the eggs closed – and f you have the same coloured tape, even better. Babies will love holding these and they will make a different sound according to what you have put inside (and even with the same material inside, according to how much filler you have used).You can also use these for rolling backwards and forwards on the floor or on a table top – and baby will love to crawl after them (and they may actually encourage your little one to start crawling), or you can roll them between yourself and baby. Baby will find it even more fun to watch the eggs roll off a table and for mummy to pick them up… continually 😂🤣!
- Peekabook eggs: Use your unscrewed plastic eggs to hide interesting (and baby-safe) objects either inside or underneath and play peekaboo for a fun, easy activity.
